"Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God'.” – Mark 10:27
A rich man came to Jesus and asked, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said, “Sell all that you have and give it to the poor.” He walked away from Jesus with a heavy heart because he valued wealth more than Christ. As per Jewish belief, wealth and riches were considered a blessing from above. Riches can, in fact, create a false sense of security. Jesus emphasized that wealth can be a major obstacle to entering God’s kingdom. For some, wealth is a trap they cannot let go of.
Jesus reminds us that salvation is not based on human effort or status but on God’s grace. No amount of wealth or good deeds can earn eternal life it is only through faith in Christ. No matter our struggles, God makes the impossible possible. Wealth, position, education, ego, and pride can become baggage that hinders us. However, Jesus is able to transform our hearts and make us worthy of eternal life.
- Are we holding on to anything, be it wealth that keeps us from fully following and trusting Jesus?
- What possessions or desires might be hindering my relationship with God?
- How can I practice trusting God instead of relying on material security?
True security comes from God, not wealth. Surrender your worries to Him, and trust that He will provide everything you need.
Prayer: Lord, help me to trust You above all things. Free my heart from attachments that keep me from fully following You. Amen.
