There are many examples in the bible who walked in the way of righteousness before God. Life of Zechariah and Elizabeth is a very good example of such people.

Bible says that the parents of the John the Baptist, Zechariah and Elizabeth walked righteous in the sight of God. Luke 1:6 They were both righteous in the sight of God, following all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly. Bible also says that they had no children and Elizabeth was barren and both were advanced in their age. The birth of John the Baptist was a miraculous one. One day Zechariah got an opportunity to burn incense in the temple and while he was burning the incense suddenly the Angel of the Lord appeared and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son; you will name him john”. Though they were advanced in their age, God heard their prayer of Zechariah and Elizabeth gave them a child.

That’s an encouraging story for someone who waits for long years for an answer from the Lord. James 5:16 says “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective”. Yes, the birth of John the Baptist is an answer to the fervent prayer and righteous living of Zechariah and Elizabeth. we see both of them were not tired of doing good and walk in righteousness though they had been carrying this pain of not having a child for long. Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. So, the life of Zechariah and Elizabeth encourages us to pray fervently and continuous live in righteousness.

The faith of Zechariah and Elizabeth in God didn’t waver and walked blamelessly, even when their prayer was not answered. Bible reminds us that we can walk righteous in this world because Christ is our righteousness and Let us walk in His righteousness.
