He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart. 1 peter 1:20-22
Jesus was destined to be the sacrifice before the creation of the world. Does it mean Christ was chosen before sin entered the world? Yes, that’s true God knows everything before the event occurs and also knows what would be the outcome. God has sent His son to the world at due time and Paul says in Galatians 4:4 "But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law," . How comforting is to know the fact that our God Knows the past the present and the future and nothing happens without his permission. Though we are baffled at some circumstance, God knows what is happening and he has prepared a way out from those circumstances. If God has sent his son for our sake then he is faithful to lead us through all these circumstances.
In verse 22 peter says our souls have been purified for a Sincere brotherly love
Peter has used two words for love in this verse Philadelphia i.e brotherly love and agape which is godlike sacrificial love. and he has asked to have both these kinds of love. Peter says our love must be sincere or fervent and we should love with a pure heart. Once an expert in law asked Jesus Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” So, these two commandments are important and we cannot neglect any one of these. 1 John 4:20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. We love the lord because he has loved us first and we love others because the love of God compels us to do so. John 13:34 Jesus said A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. There is nothing more important than love. our devotion, worship all our deeds must flow out of love. 1 Corinthians 13paul has used the entire chapter to describe the importance and greatness of love. Jesus said if we love one another then the world would know that we are the children of God.
