Jesus said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" Mark 4:40
People are gripped by the fear or live-in constant fear due to various reasons; it could be because of uncertainty of the situations around, situation is out of control, anxiety about how future will be, or it can be by the influence of devil. There might be plenty of reasons to fearful about but our God’s answer to all these situations is “Not to be afraid but to trust him completely”.
There were many occasions disciples of Jesus were afraid. One occasion they were in the boat crossing the galilee sea and suddenly there was violent storm and disciples couldn’t control the boat. disciples were afraid that they would die but there we see Jesus on the boat sleeping calm and quiet. Jesus got up by seeing the situation and calmed sea by His word. Then Jesus asked disciples “why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Few things about God we learn from this passage
1) God is with you in all situations
2) God is in Control of all situations of your life and Nothing happens or allows without his sovereign purposes
Another occasion before the crucifixion of Jesus, He encouraged and strengthened disciples for the coming persecution. John 14 we read Jesus asking then not to be troubled but to believe in Him and in His heavenly father. 14:27 Jesus promised them peace that world cannot give them and told them not to afraid by the situation but be confident in the Lord because all happens under His control. Jesus told them that he shall never leave them orphan and is going to the father and he shall send his spirit to dwell in them.
There are situations when discouragements and fear paralyses us from moving forward; But in these situations, let us trust in Jesus and in his promises. If we have reasons to worry then we have many more reasons to trust in Jesus our Lord. Our confidence is in the Lord who after destroying the devil by his death providing us the secured eternal home went to the father to be seated in the throne where he was and he has given us Holy spirit to dwell in us.
So, I trust Jesus because He has created me, formed me, redeemed me and called me by my name (Isaiah 43:1). As David said let us confess that “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper.” ( Psalm 118:6-7)
