For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, “All people are like grass, An d all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[c] And this is the word that was preached to you. 1 peter 1:23-25

We are set apart by obeying the word of God and we have purified ourselves with a purpose to participate in the covenant in Christ. The Christian life cannot be lived authentically in isolation. Everything else in this world will fade way and whatever glory human being have achieved will inevitably perish. But because the word of God abides forever, as imperishable seed it generates imperishable or eternal life. Verse 24-25 is a quotation from the book of Isaiah 40:6-8, which has numerous connections with 1 peter. When we look at the context of the Isaiah 40 we understand that this message was written to comfort the Israelites that God would bring them back from the exile of the Babylon. This proclamation of hope and deliverance was addressed to the Israel whose future was looking bleak. Peter identifies and understood that the same enduring word which was spoken through Isaiah was preached through the apostles to the first century Christians. Peter is also preaching the words of hope to Christians whose future were uncertain. So now Peter resends the word of the Lord spoken through Isaiah to comfort a people who are being tested and tried, tempted to turn away from God, tempted to let their faith grow cold. He reminds them that the promises God has made to his people endure forever and that they are God’s people.

Isaiah says people are like grass and their glory is like the flowers of the filed , the grass withers and the flowers fall. How does these words comfort Israel or how does these words minister to the Christians at Asia minor? Both authors are writing to the community that are oppressed by the enemies. The author of 1 Peter and his readers face the mighty Roman Empire with all the glory of its culture and the might of its army. Those who dwell on earth are grasshoppers in comparison with the great God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who measured off the vastness of the universe with the span of his hand and whose word abides forever. And this is the word that has come to you, the apostle says.

What does bible speak about God’s word?

Isaiah 55:1 says “so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it”. Prophet says Gods word accomplishes the purpose for it has sent. The word is powerful to transform, strengthen and purify us; the very word that was spoken to the Christians in Asia has transformed them and now peter says it will strengthen them to get through the trials they are facing for the sake of gospel. Jesus said to devil, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Nothing in this world can quench your thirst like the word of God does.
