Mathew 22:11-12 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, How did you get in here without wearing wedding clothes, friend? The man was speechless.
In Mathew 22:1-12 & Luke 14:15-24 we read about the parable of the Wedding banquet. Although there were guests who got advance notice of the banquet, they gave lame excuses to not attend when the time had come.
The king then extended the invitation to several others who were less privileged and they gladly accepted and showed up for the great banquet. During the banquet, the king notices one individual who was not dressed for the occasion and has him thrown out!
This individual accepted the invitation, came to the banquet hall with several others, was seated and had probably started eating as well when the king noticed him. Why was he speechless and didn’t have anything to say when the king questioned him? This man probably knew the etiquette to be followed to participate in the king’s banquet. The others that came with him probably also let him know that he wasn’t appropriately dressed. He may have also ignored the looks and comments from the other guests who noticed that he was the odd one out.
How many times have we also behaved like this individual? We have accepted the invitation, we are part of the church, but we take it very casually. We take the king for granted since he would anyway address us a “Friend”. We ignore advice from those in spiritual authority and have the “I know it all” attitude. We think we can sneak in without wearing wedding clothes which takes time to prepare and get ready. Let’s not forget that we may be able to get by with this sort of attitude for sometime, but there will be a time when the king himself will notice it and then you won’t have a choice, but to be thrown out of the wedding banquet hall.
Have you got the wedding clothes prepared and ready? Are you wearing them?
